The Wichita site was selected through a process which included soliciting proposals from 14 selected metropolitan areas in the United States; followed by site visits by a nine member committee to the three cites best qualified to have the park in their area. "The City of Wichita was a clear choice in the site selection competition," said Dr. Tom Drysdale, American Overseas Schools Historical Society and Archives director. "The five-plus acre, downtown river front site made available by the City of Wichita in the heart of their outstanding 'Museums on the River' cultural district is superb. Additionally, the show of support from city government, Wichita State University, the Wichita Public School System and local business and industry has been very strong." "Wichita is very excited and honored to be selected as home for the American Overseas Schools Historical Park. The park and museum will be a wonderful addition to the Museums on the River district, " said Wichita Mayor Bob Knight. Plans call for the site to include a landscaped historical park with a visitor's center, existing archives, a museum and memorials of overseas schools, alumni associations, educators and students. The selection of this site will begin a process of development, starting with the dedication of the facility by the winter of 2001. According to Dr. Drysdale, "The origin, evolution and development of American education abroad is a remarkable human and educational success story that is finally being recorded. Graduate students at home and abroad, research scholars, historians, writers and educators, American and foreign, have expressed much interest in the project. All will benefit when the park, archives and museum are officially opened to the public." The American Overseas Schools Archives (AOSA) was first established on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in 1989. The AOSA is dedicated to preserving the history and memorabilia of the kindergarten through grade 12 education of an estimated 4 million American children who attended more than 900 American overseas schools over the past 150 years." In 1995 the American Overseas Historical Society was incorporated as a non-profit IRS 501(c)(3) organization. At this time the archives were moved to their temporary home in Goodyear, Arizona. The selection of Wichita concludes a search that was begun in 1996 for a permanent home for the archives and a museum in a historical park setting. -30- Distribution: National/International Education Press, Military Press, Overseas Schools, Overseas Schools Alumni Groups

That's a long story, 21 years long, so I'll give the abbreviated version. The more interesting question is how did you get to where you are now? After fahs I spent another year in Germany with Joe. We lived in a cottage in the woods near Marburg. It sounds pretty romantic, but it was actually very isolating. Because of my status as a civilian I was low person on the totem pole as far as getting a job. When I finally had enough of the fairytale and came back to the US, Joe came with me. We ended up in armpit USA, Sparta WI. My dad was stationed at Ft. McCoy. If you've ever seen the X Files episode where the family has been inbreeding since the civil war, that's what Sparta was like. People who had lived in town for 50 years were still considered newcomers. The townspeople were suspicious of the small military community and none too welcoming. Fortunately LaCrosse was only 16 miles away and a very enlightened college town on the Mississippi river. The college years there were a continuation of the same activities I had enjoyed in Germany, on a more mature level. I achieved a much better grade point average and graduated with honors. Even managed to ace algebra, (Fotonot had given me a "D" and that was a gift) (though the way he harrassed females in his class it is a wonder that any of them passed, I just quit going). And I was a married woman. Joe and I got married in 79. My parents wouldn't pay my tuition if we were shacking up. We figured what the hell? We were going to get married in Copenhagen before we came back anyway. (The volkswagon didn't want to make the trip.) Graduated with a degree in graphic art (something in common?), though I never used it for much good. Little did I know that I was pregnant with our first child upon graduation. I worked part time at the local arts alliance that summer. That fall Joe decided to take a job with my uncle's family business here in Neenah, against my better judgement . It was a food distributor to the restaurant businesses. He was their operations manager. It was going under when we got here, and was sold before Hannah was a year old. The new owners put Joe out on the road as a salesman. So that's how I got from the land of Grimm to the land of toilet paper and Kleenex. (Kimberly Clark is known worldwide for their paper products and is headquartered in Neenah). Joe no longer works in the food business. He went back to school and earned a degree in natural resources. He has been working at the planning commission for the last 12 years. I was a stay at home mom with a small art venture on the side. I did batik and sold at the art shows and galleries in the area. There was never much regular income in it, so when the girls were both in school I started working part time in retail. I have moved from that to our public library where the pay and hours are much better. Told you it was a long story. Now let's hear yours:-) Chris

I have a daughter, Danielle, who is 2 1/2 and luckily is in daycare at the moment or there would be a whole lot of random charactors in this message (she firmly believes the only purpose for a computer is to play "Elmo-puter"). Anyway, glad to find you. Beth Proctor Class of '77 eproctor@clds.net

If you want me to update you as we continue to get closer to the date of our reunion, let me know. Or if their is a long lost buddy you want to find...I will be keeping as much info as I receive. I will be happy to let you know if I find that person. I appreciate any and all help. It has been fun finding a new lead everyday that just happens to know one more lead. By the way...if this does get to Tony Corso...I still have your 77 yearbook. It is in great condition...a bit yellowed after all the years... :-) Take care and I hope to hear from yall soon, Kelly Boerner Kastner FAHS 79

Wow, you even have my name on the "looking for list". I am honored! What a site you have here Matt. And what a purpose. I have always wondered what happened to my good friends. Now we have a place to meet. Cool. I got a list of addresses from Dennis Van Berwyn and am trying to write everyone I know. Peoblem is, for some strange reason, I can't remember a lot of names from those days. Must be that short term memory loss... If any of you know me, please write!!! I do miss everyone and have nothing but fond memories of Frankfurt, what memories I have left anyway. Matt, You'll be getting some other mail from me to let you know what all I have been up to. This is great, Charles Largen FAHS, Class of 1977
Hey Dennis, This is Charles Largen. I remember you well from all the fun times we had cutting class, hanging out at the park (a couple of em actually) and generally wasting our school days away, literally. If you haven't yet figured out who I am, here are some clues. I graduated in '77 from Frankfurt American. I have a twin brother, fraternal, named Nathan who also graduated in '77. A sister named Becky, Class of 76. Nate and I owned a black van that I know you rode in more than once on the way to a concert, party or fest. We used to hang out with Terry, Kevin & Debbie. I think their last name is Howard. they all lived right down the street from me. We used to party with you and... Erin Grey and her brother. Arron and Matt lived right next door to us. We all lived in the Edward housing area. I am now 38 years old and work as a software engineer for Sprint. Life has treated me well and I live with my girlfriend here in Kansas City. I went back to Germany 1n 83 and left again in 91. Would love to tell ya what all I have been up to and I have heard from other people so much crap about you that it can't be all true so I want to hear from you too. If you haven't yet figured out who I am yet, fuck you. Grin... I would like to reestablish communication with as many of our old crowd as we can find. I found your name in a search I did on Yahoo for "Frankfurt American High School" in the advanced search. I got an old and a new e-mail address out of there and I am going to try the new one first. If that fails I'll resend this letter to your "old" address. History: Ok, Here's what I have been up to since I left Frankfurt in 79. Following a European Vaction with mom and dad that even Chevy Chase would have hated, I flew to Virginia Beach to live with Becky and John. After hanging out there a while, I moved to Washington D.C. In large part due to my high school sweetheart, Denise Hohl. After being there long enough to screw up more than once, I moved back to our farm and started college in Virginia. Actually, I had to go through a probationary period at the local community college first. All that partying in high school kinda screwed my grades up. I needed to grow up. I got great grades but in my third year I got an offer I couldn't refuse and went to work at Snowshoe West Virginia as a ski instructor. I actually had a great time but figured out I didn't want to do that forever so when my student loans came due, I joined the army on a 2 year active enlistment and they payed my loans off for me. Obviously a sign that I was finally growing up. In 1983 the army sent me to guard Pershing missiles in Heilbronn Germany. Yea, can you believe that, me guarding nukes? I had a fun time in the Army. Made brigade rifle team and spent most my time going to tournaments. While in the army I met my, now ex, wife. I got out of the army in '85. We got married and planned to move back to the states. To make a short story long, we had a daughter, Anja Jessica Largen, and I finished my college in Stuttgart, getting a degree in Computer Sciences in 89. I worked for a while as a programmer while my wife and I went thorugh a rough divorce. She said I needed to grow up. So I went home after my divorce in '91. I moved back to Lawrence Kansas to be exact. Sabrina, my oldest sister you probably never met, lived there. I worked as a consultant for a while. Guess thats a nice way of saying I did hardly any work at all while I wallowed in a pool of self pity. Took me a couple years to recover. Guess I just needed to grow up. Now I am a software engineer (man, are we overpaid!) working for Sprint. Yea, the one with the stupid Candice Bergen commercials. I moved in with my girlfriend here in Kansas City, KS over three years ago and have never been happier in my life. We are planning on building a house in the spring and life is good. I can't complain but I do. She says she'll leave me if I ever grow up. Glad I finally found you, Charles Largen

(I don't speak spanish, but make it up really well). Looking forward to chatting when I figure out what in the hell a mIRC is and how to get one... Do you have any idea of the resounding buzz that's going on about your website? I've already been emailed on it twice, and it's only been two days! It's a hit. IT'S A GREAT BIG HIT! Even my MOM really dug it. And, yes, she took the whole trip. Jacki Bessler (77 ueber alles!)

Great site! What memories. I was in Frankfurt from '72 to '77. Attended FA Jr.HS in '74, '75 & '76 and FHS in '77. I was class of '79 but we returned to Oregon after Jacki Graduated in '77. (Hey, Dennis Berwyn! My sister Jacki and I were just talking about you!) Spent the funniest day of my life in Grüneburg Park after graduating 9th grade at FAJHS. Me and Jacki & Tom O'Brien all drinking as many of those stupid little bottles of alcohol as we could. Why did we pick so many different kinds? Jeez I had a hangover by 9pm when we went to see the LOUDEST rendition of West Side Story I've ever witnessed in front of the officer's club. God, it's great to remember being 17 from the near side of 40! Miss you all STILL! love, Micki Bessler micki@csnw.com

What an excellent website! I spent many an afternoon hour in the park with friends, and alone. I have to admit to a tear or two strolling through the park just now. Cool to find old friends, and to make new ones of fellow former Eagles who I didn't get a chance to connect with the first time around. Anybody who remembers me, or who wants to, please email me! Also we're trying to get a reunion going for '99...Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you in touch with the right folks! Jacki Bessler, '77

I remember you from FAHS, I think we were at least in some classes together. (rollcall--Aaron, Alvarado, etc.) Anyway, I don't think we knew each other well. Did you go to FAJHS too? Anyway, I lived in the Hugel housing area, played AYA football (Rascals 73- 74). Hung out with people from the Hugel-Von Stueben-Platen crowd. Steve Payton, Robin Chaples, Alvin Arisohn (still in contact with him), Karen Ferrando, Dody Bayroth, Kris & Bruce Smith, many others (I'd have to look at my yearbooks to remember more), went on to graduate from Killeen High (FT Hood, TX) in 76. Thought I'd send an e-mail to say hey. Living and working in the SF Bay area (Silicon Valley cube rat). How did you get to Australia?
